My wife pulled on our ‘97 Jaguar XK8 glove box handle, not realizing that it was locked. Sure enough, the handle broke at the rotation pin. I tried to glue it back together but that failed. Then I tried to buy a replacement on line, but none were available. There were some complete glove box doors for sale with the handle included, but they were $150 plus shipping, and all I wanted was the replacement handle, but not another 20+ year old brittle plastic handle. 

Not to be defeated, I designed a 3D model of the handle on my computer and after a dozen-plus unsuccessful attempts at producing a 3D product, I finally succeeded.

Not to allow this to ever happen again, I completely ruggedized the handle. The replacement is at least 10X stronger, with thick supports and many fillets to eliminate sharp corners that are prone to break. And best of all, the new replacement handle fits and works perfectly.

I have learned that Jaguar used this fragile designed handle on four models:

Jaguar XK8 / XKR (X100): All model years from 1996 to 2006

Jaguar XJ8 / XJR (X308 Chassis): All model years from 1997 to 2003.

I also learned that the handle comes in four color trims:

Oatmeal, code AGD, 11401

Cashmere, code SDZ, 11401

Ivory,code NED, 11100, and

Warm Charcoal, code LEG, 11101.

I looked up these Jaguar interior color codes. Then I matched the Jaguar colors with the nearest 3D printer PLA filament color. It is not an exact match to the original, but it’s very, very close. It is shown above. See photo of Beige for Oatmeal and Cashmere.

Yes, you’re right. 11401 repeats. There appears to be very little difference between Oatmeal and Cashmere.

You need to specify which you want: Beige (like the photo), Ivory, or Black. I could not figure out how to make this a drop-down menu in eBay. Sorry. Please just send me an eBay message with your desired color.

I make these handles on my 3D printer one at a time. They take about 4 hours each. Then they are lightly sanded, packed and shipped USPS First Class. They are not perfect. They might show some flaws, but I guarantee they will work and never break. They are not made in mass by injection molding. Please allow 10 days from your order until I make and USPS First Class ship your replacement glove box handle.

Note: sometimes there is a little “flash” plastic left over on the backside. That’s normal. It doesn’t interfere with the operation. It’s like the left over plastic on those plastic airplane model kits you glued together when you were a kid.

So what’s that worth? For me, a happy wife makes a good life. I bought her the pictured Jaguar XK8 convertible on Mother’s Day eight years ago. Sure, there have been some repairs, but it’s worth it.

The hardest part for me was the spring. See picture. It is inserted on the rotation pin farthest from the key lock, shorter leg against the backside of the front pointing away from the bead handle, and longer leg rests on the moveable locking bars. You have to hold on to the spring when you snap the new handle into position.

I suggest you clean and lubricate the locking bars with lock grease powder before snapping your new handle into final position. Don’t forget to press your lock into the receptacle until it snaps. I guarantee you will hear a loud click so press hard.
